- Happy: Feeling or showing pleasure in contentment
I met a lady on the elevator who complemented my hair. ( A silk press) I replied thank you and complemented her dress in return. She proceeded to ask if processing my hair made me happy. I was confused so she explained that nowadays we don’t know what truly make us happy because social media has a big influence on our happiness. She continued talking about happiness and how we allow others to mold our minds into doing what doesn’t make us happy.
It felt as if I was on that elevator an eternity but I agreed with her for the most part. I personally like don’t believe social media takes all the fault because we can stray away from social media but the influence of our peers and families are still there.
When the elevator opened I said ma’am, you are doing the exact same thing as social media. First you saw my hair and assumed it was relaxed, that’s judgmental. Then you explained your thoughts on happiness, that’s influence. I proceeded to say I know exactly what makes me happy. She then said outside of your family name three things that make you truly happy. I was speechless, no seriously I didn’t have a answer. She laughed and said it’s okay, you’re still learning about life.
My brain was working overtime trying to figure out what truly makes me happy. All I could think of was sleeping. Besides being with my family nothing makes me happy except sleeping, that’s weird. Am I the only person?
So I am on a journey to figure out what truly makes me happy. I plan to start writing down what I’m doing when I’m feeling happy. Also carve out time just for myself because I obviously need to explore, and I plan to participate in more community activities because maybe I spend to much time inside.
